Tuscaloosa has a deep treasure of gospel artists and we highlight gospel recording artist T.L. Davis, Jr. He is know throughout Tuscaloosa and the nation for his vocals and musical style. He is a versatile artist and can truly sing gospel to inspirational music.
Thomas Davis, Jr., was born in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. His family moved to Emelle, Alabama when he was ten years old. Beginning at the age of three, daily, he beat on his mother’s utensils. Eventually, what she once heard as noise became a rhythm with precision; at that point she knew her son had a natural gift from God, because he’d never received any professional drum lessons. After much practice and persistence his dream of becoming a drummer at church became a reality. The beat of the drum would soon lead him to his love for music and ministry.
Thomas graduated from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, a town that is now home for him and his wife Charakii; together they have two children, Skylar and Tahj. While attending college, he became a member of the choir, and learned three vocal parts and how to read music. He is currently the associate pastor of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Northport, AL where he enjoys connecting to the community through word, worship, and fellowship.
Thomas is a developing artist whose singing platform is rapidly growing. He has opened up for Tye Tribbett, Martha Munizzi, Hezekiah Walker, and Byron Cage. November of 2016, Thomas was crowned Grand Champion at the world famous Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night “Show Off” Contest, in Harlem, New York. Thomas's musical and talents and personality have been a blessing to people all over the world. You can hear his unique sound in his new single Explore where he expresses his elevated relationship with God and how the exploration of love rescued him from conforming to the world.
