Tuscaloosa native Freda Givens was reared under the musical tutelage of her mother, Dr. Mildred Givens, who was known for her music in the West Alabama and East Mississippi areas. Her mother was a passionate school teacher for 36 years along with working diligently in music ministry. Dr. Mildred Givens is considered to be a pioneer of gospel music in the area forming the first 100-voice mass choir in the 70’s. Mildred passed those musical gifts on to her daughter, Freda. Freda Givens, who resides in Atlanta Georgia, has released her first solo single.

Freda Givens is known throughout the country as the composer of "Whom Shall I Fear", a gospel choir standard featured on multiple professional recordings. After years of writing original pieces and serving in several supporting roles in music ministry, she released her first solo single in 2022, "Lord, That’s Your Way," an original composition.

Freda Givens is an experienced musician, vocalist, vocal coach, choral director, piano instructor, and composer. She is also an educational professional dedicated to empowering today’s youth. She is a seasoned music consultant, adjudicator, guest conductor, lecturer, and workshop clinician in the vocal/choral arena. Her choral experience includes working with singers of all ages through university, public school, church, and community choruses.

Dr. Givens holds degrees in Music Education at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. Her Specialist Degree is in Curriculum Management. She also holds a Doctor of Educational Leadership Degree. Her postdoctoral studies include continual professional development to remain abreast of current trends in education including completion of the Harvard University Summer Institute. Over the years, Dr. Givens has received numerous awards and accolades.

In 2017, Dr. Givens was recognized by the Georgia House of Representatives for her outstanding leadership in education. She has worked diligently in school leadership while simultaneously serving as the Minister of Worship Arts for her church. God has uniquely positioned her to provide a specific sound and words of encouragement for this present generation. She is committed to following His will as she launches into the next level of music ministry.
