Our Tuscaloosa Gospel Spotlight of the week is Jazz and Gospel artist Cashmere Williams. His new release "Awesome" is a certified hit of worship and more!
Cashmere Williams is a seasoned professional with over 21 years experience in the music business, he started in church at the young age of seven years old, at eight years old he won his first talent show playing an old gospel song his uncle taught him. In 1995, he won a partial scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts with the likes of Quincy Jones, Brandford Marsalis to name a few. In 1999, Williams stepped out as a full-time musician entertaining at corporate events, private parties and the occasional jazz festival. In 2003, he got the call to back American Idol winner Ruben Studdard appearing on shows: The David Letterman Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The View, The Jay Leno Show and many more.
After three years on the road, Cashmere recorded “New Birth”, a dedication to his
daughter Harmonie that debuted on the Smooth Jazz Charts. Recently, he was nominated twice and won “Best Male Jazz Artist” awarded by The Alabama Music Awards in Birmingham, Alabama.
His latest release “Awesome” is a blend of praise & worship songs as well as two originals “After The Rain” and “ We Need You” both composed by Williams. Williams stated, “I always knew I would come back to my roots which is gospel because that’s where I’m the most comfortable”
