Tuscaloosa Pastor of the Week: Pastor Corey Savage
Praise 93.3. & 790 WTSK salutes our Tuscaloosa Pastor of the Week Pastor Corey Savage of Plum Grove Baptist Church Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Pastor Savage is the new pastor at Plum Grove after succeeding Dr. Tyshawn Gardner.
Rev. Corey A. Savage enthusiastically serves as the Senior Pastor of Plum Grove Baptist Church located in the historic West End of Tuscaloosa, AL. Under the leadership of Pastor Savage, Plum Grove emphasizes spiritual growth and development, dynamic community fellowship, caring for the community at large, and impactful worship.
Pastor Savage was born and raised in Fayette, AL, and a 2005 graduate of Fayette County High School in 2005. Pastor Savage attended Bevill State Community College on full scholarship in 2005 and obtained an Associate's degree in Communications. He then transferred to Auburn University where he would earn a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 2009. While there, Pastor Savage was a founding member and first ever Vice-President of the Harold A. Franklin Society. A society dedicated to the support of men of color that is named after the first Black man to attend the institution.
Pastor Savage has been a licensed social worker in the state of Alabama for 12 years and has worked in various social work positions from foster care to juvenile justice. In 2018, he helped secure a federal grant to fund and implement a juvenile re-entry program for Tuscaloosa County teens aimed at recidivism and mentorship. One of only five cities in the country to secure such a program.
Pastor Savage graduated from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University with a Master of Divinity in the Spring of 2022. While there he served as the Vice-President and founding member of the Minority Student Fellowship, the school’s first organization for the support and flourishing of students of color; and was a school ambassador for two years. Prior to graduation Pastor Savage was awarded the Pastoral Ministry Award for excellence in the study of Pastoral Theology and Pastoral Care to his community.
Currently along with his responsibilities at Plum Grove, Pastor Savage is a School Social Worker for the Tuscaloosa County Schools, Programs Director for the Citizens Impacting Community Association, member of the 2022 Class of Leadership Tuscaloosa, and an active member of Delta Phi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Pastor Savage has found great joy in marriage to the love of his life, Coretta, since 2010. He shares that same elation in being the father of their three beautiful children Ayla(11), Carter(10), and Brenna(9).
