ALDOT plans to place the second arch of the 20/59 bridge at Exit 73 today and will close a portion of McFarland Boulevard while crews are working.

All lanes of McFarland Boulevard that pass underneath the 20/59 bridge will be closed from approximately 12 noon today (Saturday, February 13) until the work is completed.

Inclement weather forced ALDOT to modify its work schedule earlier this week; however, the contractor will be able to resume scheduled work after showers leave the area and should have the new arch placed by late afternoon today.

"The arches are necessary, as they will hold the weight of the bridge over McFarland Boulevard and will allow the contractor to remove the underneath temporary support," ALDOT said in a press release announcing the scheduled work. "The design will allow for more space on McFarland Boulevard where the single-point urban interchange will be constructed. The SPUI will improve travel time while also enhancing safety."
