Stillman College Takes Down Blue Mountain College With A Big Lead 

Basketball season is in full swing! The Stillman College Tigers are feeling good after their recent win.

The energy was electric inside Birthright Alumni Hall as the Stillman College women's basketball team put on a show. They defeated Blue Mountain College 65-47.

It was their biggest win of the season and it broke a seven-game losing streak for the team according to a Stillman College press release.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Stillman College picked up its biggest win of the season Friday, Feb. 12, defeating Blue Mountain College by 18 points, 65-47, to snap a seven-game losing streak.

Morgan Collins scored seven of Stillman's opening 11 points to help the Tigers take an early 11-2 lead. While the Toppers cut the game to five points with three minutes left in the first half, Stillman never trailed. Gigi Lewis' scored off a turnover to make it a two-possession game, 29-24, but De'Asia Marsh hit a pair of free throws, followed by an Imani Wimbish-Gay 3-pointer to push the Tigers' lead to 10 points. Stillman took a 40-28 lead into halftime.

Zikira Williams scored nine points in the second half to help Stillman maintain its double-digit lead most of the final 20-plus minutes. Charnita Brooks scored a bucket in the paint, 51-42, with 6:45 left to pull Blue Mountain with nine points. Stillman put together three consecutive stops on defense, the last being a Williams' steal, fast-break layup and free throw to extend Stillman's margin to 14 points, 56-42. Devyn Lockhart's basket to end the game gave Stillman its largest margin of victory this season.

Collins finished with 19 points, including 14 points in the first half, while Williams scored 13. Zaria Jenkins scored nine points and had two blocks off the bench.

Stillman controlled the backboard, grabbing 43 rebounds to Blue Mountain's 36. The Tigers had 13 offensive rebounds.

Olivia Chadwell led Blue Mountain with 17 points and six rebounds. Mallory Russell had nine rebounds and two blocks.

The Men's basketball team also defeated Blue Mountain College by huge numbers. The final score was 95-68. Stillman looks to keep the winning streak going as they take on Blue Mountain College again at home, Saturday, Feb. 13 for a 3 p.m. start.  Go Tigers!
