Gordo Advances to Second Round of the 3A AHSAA Playoffs
Gordo overpowered Wellborn in a 49-point shutout victory on Friday, which saw three different Gordo players score two touchdowns apiece in tonight's first-round win.

Gordo started strong in this game, as the Greenwave's defense forced a fumble on the second play and recovered it in Wellborn territory. This set up a three-yard rushing touchdown by Gordo's junior running back and linebacker, Noah McDaniel, making the score 7-0 with 8:22 remaining in the first quarter.
The Greenwave scored another touchdown before the end of the first quarter, extending their lead to 14 points with a 60-yard rushing touchdown by Gordo's senior running back and cornerback, AJ Latham.
Gordo's defense played lights out in the first half, forcing multiple three-and-outs while coming away with another turnover before the end of the first quarter, with Junior linebacker Ford Hewitt coming away with the interception, giving Gordo possession at the Greenwave's 42-yard line. This led to Gordo's first touchdown of the second quarter, with the Greenwave's junior quarterback, McCain Robertson, rushing it in from one yard out to make the score 21-0 with 11:57 left in the first half.
The Greenwave added two more touchdowns before the end of the half. McCain Robertson scored his second rushing touchdown of the game from ten yards out, and McDaniel picked up his second rushing touchdown of the night from five yards out. This gave Gordo a 35-point lead as they went into halftime.
The second half saw the Greenwave add one more touchdown in the third quarter when Latham broke free for a 30-yard touchdown to give the senior running back his second rushing touchdown of the night, increasing Gordo's lead to 42 points with 8:45 left in the third quarter.
Following this touchdown, the Greenwave subbed out all of their starters and threw in the backups with Gordo's eighth-grade running back, Bryson Peck, who picked up a ten-yard rushing touchdown to add to the Greenwave's lead, making it a 49-0 ball game with 11:11 left in regulation.
This was the final score of the game, with the Greenwave achieving its 68th playoff win in school history and marking the program's first victory under first-year head coach Chris Chambless.
Gordo will advance to the second round of the 3A AHSAA Playoffs, where the Greenwave will host Colbert County, the No. 2 seed from Region 7, next Friday, November 14.
