You Might Run into Robert DeNiro in Mobile, Alabama This Fall
It's fall, y'all--and that means pumpkin spice lattes, boots, hats, corn mazes, and... Robert DeNiro?
One of the most famous actors of basically any generation could be spotted in Mobile this month and in October, too. Here's what we know so far:
Robert DeNiro is Shooting a Feature Film in Alabama
Y'all know him from flicks like Taxi Driver, The Godfather Part II, Goodfellas, Meet the Fockers, and so many more, and now Robert DeNiro is set to shoot his next movie in Mobile.
Why Mobile?
Mobile and Fairhope are becoming hot spots for the film industry. Get Out was shot in Fairhope, and Gerald's Game, The Tiny Map of Perfect Things, and Inheritance were shot in Mobile. You get the beautiful scenery of the Alabama coast AND a pretty big tax write off, too--the State of Alabama issues $20 million annually in filming incentives.
What's the Movie About?
DeNiro's new movie is called About My Father. It's loosely based on the life of stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalo, who's also set to star in the movie. The gist of the flick is that a stand-up comedian brings his very Italian-American dad to meet his fiancé's family for the first time and, as you can imagine, hilarity ensues.
How Can You See Robert DeNiro?
Your best bet is to watch the film when its released, but there is a chance you could see him in Mobile when shooting starts later this month. Who knows what he'll check out when in the city--my guess would be fine dining at Dauphine's or a sweet treat at Mo'Bay Beignets.
