Praise 93.3 & 790 WTSK salutes our Tuscaloosa Pastor of the Week, Pastor Schmitt Moore of Bethel Baptist Church. Moore has been a mainstay in Tuscaloosa in education, church and in the community.

Pastor Schmitt Moore has been the pastor of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church since April 1983.

He was born in Greene County, Alabama and moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the age of five.  He received his primary and secondary education in the Tuscaloosa County School System where he graduated from Boteler High School.  He received his Associate Arts Degree from Shelton State Junior College and his B.A. Degree from Birmingham Baptist College of Birmingham, Alabama.  He also studied at Miles College and Samford University both of Birmingham, Alabama.

Reverend Moore previously served as pastor of the Saint Paul Baptist Church of Peterson, Alabama and the Old Green Oak Baptist Church of Forkland, Alabama.

Reverend Moore has a long history of religious, community and civic services.  He has served as President and Chairman of many organizations including PTA, Tuscaloosa Boys and Girls Parent Club, Tuscaloosa Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, Board of Directors of the Stillman Credit Union, Secretary of the Alabama State Convention, Chairman of the Tuscaloosa County School Board,  President of the Pastors’ Conference of the Alabama Baptist State Convention,   Board Member of the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education, and Dean of the NABD Congress of Christian Education.

He organized the following ministries:  The Tuscaloosa Metro Jail Ministry, Tuscaloosa area Nursing Home Ministry, Bring Education to Help Expelled Learners (B.E.T.H.E.L.) and the Bethel Outreach, Inc.

Reverend Moore is presently serving as Chairman of Board of Directors for Bethel’s Outreach, Inc., President of the NABD Congress of Christian Education, Vice President at-large of the Alabama Baptist State Convention, and President of Alabama State Southern Christian Leadership Conference.  He presently serves in leadership with the Ecumenical Ministers’ Movement in the city.

He is married to the former Barbara Robertson and they are proud parents of three sons, Carlos, Dennis and Cory.  All three sons are in full time ministry.  Carlos is pastor and Dennis is an minister and Cory is with the church’s music ministry.
