Sam Jackson’s Closing After 102 Years
After 102 years of doing business in Tuscaloosa, Sam Jackson's Gifts is closing it's doors.
Established in 1914, Sam Jackson's Gifts Emporium moved from Sixth street to it's current location on Queen City Avenue almost a half century ago. The founder, Sam Jackson, opened the general store before department stores, malls or shopping centers found their way into neighborhoods and communities.
The emporium has always been a little eclectic in their merchandise. Customers could find decorative gifts, home goods, food and clothing which has changed since the days during the depression when flour came in 25-pound bags. Sugar and dried beans were also in high demand back then.
The store will close it's doors forever on May 31, 2016.
