Rev. Curtis Travis is a man of deep faith, unwavering commitment, and dedicated service to both his church and his community. In June 2024, after much prayer, encouragement, and careful consideration, he was honored to be chosen as the Pastor of Benville Missionary Baptist Church. His journey with Benville began in 2008, and after serving as an associate pastor since March 6, 2011, he has developed a profound connection with the church and its congregation. He considers Benville to be a truly special place filled with remarkable individuals.

Born and raised in the Sawyerville community, Rev. Travis is a graduate of Akron High School in the Hale County School System. He pursued higher education at the University of Alabama, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering and completing coursework towards a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering. His educational background reflects his commitment to personal growth and excellence in every endeavor.

Rev. Travis was married to the late Dr. Jimmie Clark, and he is a proud father to two accomplished children. His daughter, Ava, graduated in 2021 from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a degree in Elementary Education and currently serves in the Huntsville City school system. His son, Justin, is a 2024 graduate of Jacksonville State University, where he majored in Sports Management and Communication. Justin now works as a reporter for The News Courier in Athens, Alabama.

In addition to his pastoral role, Rev. Travis is an active member of his community and a dedicated public servant. He currently represents Alabama House District 72 as a state legislator, where he advocates for the needs of his constituents. His previous experiences as an assistant pastor, a licensed homebuilder, a retired AEA field representative, and an AEA manager have equipped him with a wealth of knowledge and a heart for service. His dedication to making a difference is evident through his involvement in numerous boards and organizations.

To me, Black History is a reminder that our stories matter. It is about recognizing the struggles endured, the barriers broken, and the contributions
made in every field—from science and art to politics and social justice. It is about embracing the legacy of leaders, dreamers, and change-makers who have
shaped the world for the better. -Rev. Curtis Travis

Rev. Travis firmly believes in the power of service—service that is sincere, genuine, and intentional. He strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. Inspired by the words of Matthew 20:28, “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,” he remains steadfast in his mission to uplift and support his congregation and community.

The people of Benville Missionary Baptist Church are more than just members of a congregation; they are a loving and supportive church family. Rev. Travis is honored to lead them spiritually under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. His leadership is rooted in the principles of justice, mercy, and humility, as expressed in Micah 6:8: “O man, what is good: and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”

Rev. Curtis Travis invites all to visit Benville Missionary Baptist Church, located at 3211 Old McGee Road, Cottondale. Services begin at 11:00 a.m., offering a place of worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Through his unwavering faith and dedication, Rev. Travis continues to be a guiding light in Alabama, making a lasting impact on those he serves.
