Paralyzed Student Walks at Graduation — And Gets Engaged!
A student who became paralyzed after suffering an injury while playing football his freshman year has showed the world just how far he's come.
Chris Norton, 23, fractured his neck and a compressed spinal cord while playing for Iowa's Luther College and doctors told him he had a three percent chance of moving his legs again.
Norton proved all the doubters wrong this past weekend during his graduation when he got out of his wheelchair and walked while the crowd roared in thunderous cheers.
He had some help with his girlfriend, Emily Summers. Well, make this his fiancee. It turns out the other big news for Norton this weekend came when he popped the question the day before the graduation.
Norton may have left school behind, but the road ahead looks promising. In addition to his upcoming wedding, he's also planning on publishing a book about his journey later this year.
