One of the most well-known challenges in Tuscaloosa is returning on April 2, 2022.

For those unfamiliar with the challenge, participants run or walk a one-mile loop that starts at Government Plaza. Following the first one-mile loop, participants will then eat a dozen doughnuts and then run or walk another mile.

Runners or walkers are not required to eat the dozen doughnuts during the event.

When reached for comment, Danielle McInerney, the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama said of the return of the event: "Our last KKC was on Feb. 29, 2020. We were one of the few lucky non-profit organizations in West Alabama. When the state shut down and went into quarantine, the majority of agencies in our area had to cancel a lot of fundraisers. Critical fundraisers for their programs."

McInerney continued, "Last year was tough not having the KKC. Even though we were fortunate the year before, missing that kind of revenue was hard. This is our largest fundraiser every year. We have done it for 10 years."

McInerney also talked about one of the things she's excited to see return, the costume contest.

"We are bringing back the Costume contest. It’s one of my favorite things about the KKC. This year we are giving a cash prize to the first-place team. We used to just give cash prizes of $300, $200, and $100 for the first three male and female, but we decided to also give prize money to the first-place team."

According to a press release by Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama, the organization has been in operation for over 40 years and "started in 1982 and is the only professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring program in West Alabama. The organization strives on changing lives, improving grades, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities."
