I can’t escape bugs in Alabama, regardless of whether I am inside or outside. I guess it’s the penalty for living in a warm, excellent climate.

OK, on the wonderful part, I could do without some of the intense humidity in July, but other than that, I’m satisfied.
According to several sources, including The Montgomery Advertiser, these insects that float through the air and resemble cotton balls are taking over the air in the state of Alabama this fall.
That’s not cotton. These are real insects, and they are known as a woolly aphid.
Some people also compare them to what lint looks like, and it definitely will startle you when the piece of lint is alive.

They are invading at this time, our air, plants, and trees all across the state. They have already been spotted all over South Alabama, but they are quickly moving north into Central and West Alabama.
I have some good news about this particular bug, and in Alabama, I don’t usually get to say this, but it is relatively harmless to people and pets.
They do not sting, bite, or spread any disease, which is excellent news and a rare occurrence among insects.
The biggest threat from these little buggers is the fact that they are nothing but sap suckers. So that makes them a bit of a threat to trees and plants, and if you are a gardener, you need to know a little bit about the woolly aphid.
I must say we have it relatively good compared to specific states like Virginia, where this time of year, a type of spider floats through the air and appears to be flying, and I don’t think I could deal with flying spiders.
These insects were first discovered in Georgia about 20 years ago, and it didn’t take long for them to show up in Alabama.
The most common type in the state of Alabama is known as the Asian Woolly Hackberry Aphid.
Say that three times fast or just for fun—the Asian woolly Hackberry aphid. Now you can never say that you didn’t learn something from reading my stories.

Did I mention that some states experience an invasion this time of year, where it appears spiders are flying through the air?
That is just too much for this reporter.
