OK, someone was clearly listening to us as we debated this on our last pregame show, The Tide Tailgate Show, on 95.3 The Bear, Tide 100.9, and 1230 AM WTBC, before Alabama took on South Carolina.

The question was what are the most outstanding OR GREATEST programs of all time in college football history, and we were looking for a top 10.

We discussed a Mount Rushmore of the greatest college football programs of all time, but that is much more difficult to pull off and have everyone even come close to agreeing.

In this case, we asked everyone on the show from DC, Matt Coulter, Wallace Gilberry, Steven Mezrano, and Reagan from R&R cigar fame.

Each panelist has specific qualifications, and some are better than others at answering a question like this, but it wasn't easy to get anyone to agree.

Everyone seemed to agree on a few schools. Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame appeared to be the group that everyone agreed on, but then it got a little more controversial.

I mentioned Penn State, and it drew a lot of blowback. We talked about Oklahoma, and it didn’t seem like everyone agreed it was one of the top schools.

Texas came up, and no one could agree.

So this week, the Associated Press took a swing at the question of which are the Greatest college football programs of all time.

Here’s how they saw the rankings:
10. Tennessee.
9. Penn State
t7. Nebraska.
t7. Texas.
6. USC
5. Notre Dame.
4. Michigan.
3. Oklahoma
2. Ohio State

And at number one, according to the Associated Press:

#1. ALABAMA

Enough said.
