And I’m talking about right here in Alabama, where we are supposed to have manners, or at least we used to have manners.

The unbridled vitriol and hatred being expressed online is unlike anything I have ever seen in my lifetime.

Of course, it all revolves around the murder of Charlie Kirk last week in Utah while doing an event on a college campus.

Instead of walking up to Charlie and openly telling him that you don’t like him and you disagree with what he has to say, which would’ve put you at the front of the line to speak with him, but no, this individual decided to shoot him.

A 22-year-old who, in one three-second moment, threw his life away forever. Considering that the average American male lives to be somewhere around 70, this person has lived more than 50 years, all because he hated someone for their beliefs.

That’s when all hell broke loose online, and many folks right here in Alabama posted vile comments, videos, and even celebrations of someone’s death.

Many of the celebration videos were just so grotesque that they made me ashamed of my fellow Americans.

I don’t care about the politics of it for one second because had that been someone that I personally disagree with or don’t really care for in politics, I would have thought the very same thing that I felt last week.

It’s sick and sad.

We have lost our way in America.

I’m most disturbed, though, to see my fellow Alabamians acting this way online and being so hateful and heartless.

A website that was started to track all of these hateful comments has now led to the firing of thousands of individuals, with plenty of them living in Alabama, and now scrubbing their social media accounts clean of any hate speech aimed at Charlie Kirk.

I’m not going to name any names.

Still, it was shocking to see teachers, firefighters, realtors, business owners, and other professionals in Alabama making threats against politicians or just plain horrible comments for everyone to see.

I hate to see anyone lose their jobs, but this is their own fault.

In fact, some of the most hateful comments have now been replaced with apology videos asking for forgiveness.

That’s being met by many who are saying that they won’t forgive because they didn’t have any shred of decency over a man’s death in front of the world.

Alabama is better than this! It has to be, or there’s no hope for any of us.
