Alabama Residents Spied On After New Law Hits Books October 2026
I'm not worried about driving by a Flock camera and getting my tag recorded. That's nothing compared to a new law that just hit the law books a few days ago.

It's known as SB118 (2026-374), and the law establishes the Alabama Background Check Service. That sounds good on paper. Who runs it? Well, I'm glad you asked. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. This lets them run all sorts of background checks on you or me. Up front, it's all about employment and professional licensing. However, I'm reading several pieces on the new law that have some people worried about what will be allowed when it comes to spying on average, everyday Alabama citizens.
HB303 is a law with protections centered around cryptocurrency in Alabama. It's a fraud protection bill meant to warn consumers about the many fraud risks in that type of transaction.
SB269 is a new law that sets minimum insurance payments for ambulance rides. Those rides are incredibly expensive. They are so costly that it's gotten ridiculous. The law will also ban "surprise bills," which I welcome.
SB58 seeks to stop a convicted felon who is also a public official from claiming their pension. Those forfeited pensions will now go to victims.
SB361, known as "Beau's Law," seeks to stop the cruelty of animals in Alabama when they are left outdoors. Many times, those dogs are left on chains with nothing to eat or drink. This law will set a new standard for housing dogs outdoors. All collars, tethers, etc must be properly fitted, and they must have access to food.
