Hewitt-Trussville Dominates Hillcrest in 24-0 Win
Hewitt Trussville defeated Hillcrest 24-0 on Friday in the 7A showdown, marking the Patriots' second loss of the season.

This marks the first time since 2020 that Hillcrest has been shut out in a game, with the previous occurrence in the second round of the 6A AHSAA, resulting in a 28-0 loss to Opelika.
Hillcrest's defense started strong by forcing Hewitt-Trussville to turn the ball over on downs during the Huskies' first drive of the game. This gave the Patriots possession at their own 40-yard line. Unfortunately, Hillcrest's offense struggled to find any rhythm due to Hewitt-Trussville's tight coverage in the secondary, a problem that plagued Hillcrest throughout the night in Friday's loss.
The scoring began with a drive led by Senior running back Delvecchio Alston II and Freshman quarterback Jack Floyd, who marched 60 yards down the field. They capped off the drive with a four-yard rush by Alston for a touchdown. Huskies' kicker Banks Loyd successfully made the extra point, giving Hewitt-Trussville a 7-0 lead with 7:01 left in the first quarter.
Hewitt-Trussville went on to score again before the end of the first quarter, this time on a 45-yard field goal by Loyd, which put the Huskies up 10-0 with 1:25 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, both teams' defenses managed to secure a takeaway. The Huskies fumbled the ball just outside the Patriots' 10-yard line after a bad snap from center. However, similar to the first quarter, Hillcrest's offense struggled to gain momentum. Hewitt-Trussville's linebacker intercepted a pass from Patriots' quarterback Jordan Shambley the following drive, giving the Huskies possession deep inside Hillcrest's 30-yard line with 1:18 remaining in the half.
Hewitt-Trussville was unable to score any points before the end of the first half. However, they started the second half strong by forcing the Patriots to a three-and-out, resulting in a punt. This gave the Huskies possession at midfield. They then drove the ball inside the ten-yard line, where quarterback Floyd executed a quarterback power for seven yards, scoring a touchdown and extending the Huskies' lead to 17 points with 7:56 remaining in the third quarter.
Hillcrest struggled to find an answer to Hewitt-Trussville's defensive attack, with first downs being a rare commodity. The Patriots' offense didn't help itself with sacks and tackles for loss, putting them behind the chains on second and third down.
The Huskies went on to score another Touchdown when Hewitt Trussville's senior wide receiver Dylan Cope scored a 60-yard touchdown pass from Floyd. This made it 24-0 with 6:19 left in the fourth quarter.
Neither team managed to score again, with the final score being 24-0, which drops Hillcrest to a record of 3-2. The Patriots will be hitting the road to face 6A Hueytown next Friday, September 26th.
Hewitt-Trussville will improve to 5-0 on the season as they will take on Pinson Valley at home next Friday.
