‘Cobra Kai’ on Netflix is Binge Watching Worthy
If you were a fan of all ‘The Karate Kid’ movies and moves, then ‘Cobra Kai’ on Netflix is a must-watch. Seriously, ‘The Karate Kid’ was a rite of passage of the 80s. Who didn’t love the Zen-like qualities of Mr. Miyagi, played by Noriyuki "Pat" Morita. I even had a crush on Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio; I’m talking poster on the wall type of crush.
This past Friday, ‘Cobra Kai’ landed the number one slot on Netflix just after being released. Where did ‘Cobra Kai’ come from? It already had two seasons ready to go. Well, it was already in existence and was on YouTube premium since 2018. Then Netflix announced it got the rights to the show, and BOOM. According to CNN, "Cobra Kai" has handily crane-kicked "Lucifer" out of the No. 1 spot on Netflix's Top 10 in a single weekend.”
I started on last Friday and binged watch seasons one and two of ‘Cobra Kai’ and have fallen in love with Johnny Lawrence, played by William Zabka. Which in the movies, I didn’t like him because he was the “bad guy” and mean. Not to mention, my love and loyalty was to Daniel LaRusso.
In my opinion, ‘Cobra Kai’ showcases the other side of ‘The Karate Kid’ movies. It almost makes you look at this series as a “why” behind the Cobra Kai mentality. It is action-packed, has drama, there is a love triangle, and gives the adult perspective of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. I will admit at the end of season two, I wanted more, but we will have to wait until 2021.
