It was most gratifying on previous Board Meetings to witness the opposition  to recommendations made by the Tuscaloosa City School Superintendent. The public, along with board members were very vocal in their disapproval of the recommendations presented.

The original plan called for a vote on the superintendent's revised recommendation on tonight at the regular board meeting. It is indicated that several suggestions from Board members and the public were taken into consideration and changes needed to be made, including maps and other technical information.

It is indicated that due to the closure of the system office all week, the superintendent and his team had rather limited time to revise the document from the previous vote.

After discussion and review yesterday, the superintendent and board chairman have decided to place the document on the agenda as a 1st reading for tonight. Therefore, allowing the Board and the public time to review the document before a final vote scheduled for December 15, 2015.

Now that the recommendations have been revisited and revised, it makes good sense to consider the use of smaller schools and the positive impact that they have on student achievement.

I certainly hope that all parents and concerned citizens will make plans to be in attendance on tonight in the Event Hall of the Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy at 6:00 p.m. Remember the future of your children is hanging in the balance.
