Excitement Builds for the Return of the West Alabama Christmas Parade and Celebration
The Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority (PARA) West Alabama Christmas Parade and Celebration is building excitement in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the parade was off last year.
This well treasured Alabama holiday tradition will take place on Monday, December 6, 2021. To kick-off the holiday season the Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 5:15 p.m. and the Christmas Parade at 6:30 p.m. in Downtown Tuscaloosa.
Tree Lighting Ceremony
The Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on the steps of the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse at 5:15 p.m. “Judge Rob Robertson as Master of Ceremonies with a choral performance by the Westwood Elementary Singers, and Alabama Blues Project. During the ceremony and in holiday tradition, the Grand Marshals will flip the switch to light the Tuscaloosa County Christmas Tree,” according to PARA.

The parade festivities will start at 6:30 p.m. in Downtown Tuscaloosa. PARA has announced that the “Grand Marshals serving for the 2021 Parade are Nancie Blewitt, Jheovanny Gomez, and Pam Parker. While each is set apart by their own unique path, all three are a testament to the strength of service to the community, and their impact across Tuscaloosa County is undeniable.”
One-Mile Parade Route
Be sure to plan ahead for the parade route. PARA noted that “anywhere along the one-mile parade route is accessible and provides good viewing.” Your favorite Townsquare Media radio stations will be joining in on the holiday fun. Be on the lookout for 92.9 WTUG, 95.3 The Bear, ALT 101.7, and 105.1 The Block.

Please remember that the downtown area will be congested due to the numerous streets being blocked along the parade route. So, use extra caution, prepare for slow traffic and be aware of heavy foot traffic.
What to Expect
According to PARA, the West Alabama Christmas Parade, “has long been recognized as the largest parade of its kind in Alabama. For the 2021 parade, 103 entries are featuring 27 judged entries, floats, decorated vehicles, walking groups, three horse groups, and seven marching bands.”

As of right now, (this information could change), according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, there is a “20 percent chance of showers after midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 39 degrees.
