The Tuscaloosa Gospel Spotlight of the Week is here and this week we feature one of Tuscaloosa's favorite groups: The Anointed Brown Sisters.

The Anointed Brown Sisters are vocal powerhouses with fire down from the country in Havana, Alabama. The four ladies are from Hale County and the group is comprised of Chrishon "Chris" Brown-Smith, Mesha Brown-Lanier, Abigail "Abby" Brown, and Ora Brown who are sisters and grew up together singing. Mesha and Chrishon are the front runners and do most of the writing and vocals even starting from the early ages of 5 years old. Chrishon Brown-Smith is the lead singer, songwriter, and arranger for the group. The group also includes Ms. Smith’s daughter, Crystal Smith.

Their mother and father Mac and Doris Brown influenced and encouraged them to sing in church and in programs. However, in the 1970's their parents separated and their mother moved to Tuscaloosa. It was not until the year 2000, that the Anointed Brown Sisters formed into a quartet group.

The group released their first CD on their own entitled "Philippians 4:13" with hit single "I Don't Know What You Come To Do" I reviewed the CD myself for my website years ago and I believe the sisters “one of the premiere gospel groups of the South.” and added, “This is a great CD. We have been listening to this project since I received it. And they are fantastic in concert!” The group even toured Italy in 12 cities overseas singing by a invitation. The Anointed Brown Sisters have a stage presence second to none and you feel the powerful vocals and anointing flow whenever they sing.

The group has released CDs in 2001, the group released their first CD, Philippians 4:13. In 2005, they released "Crossing Over and Moving On". And, in 2011, they released the CD "He Worked It Out For Me."

The Anointed Brown Sisters will have their Virtual Appreciation on Sunday January 31, 2021 at 5pm at the Mt. Carmel Community Church in Duncanville. You can watch live yourself on Facebook Live. The appreciation service will feature them and special guests Blest By Four, Lisa Knowles-Smith, Tay Menafield and Men of Prayze.
