Alabamians will gain an extra hour this Sunday as we move our clocks back an hour. The end of daylight savings time happens on Sunday, November 6, at 2 a.m.

Currently, many time-keeping devices typically will sync up to the adjusted time correctly with no issues like phones and computers. However, some items will need you to manually adjust like car clocks, wall clocks, oven clocks, etc.

But, didn’t Governor Kay Ivey sign a bill to make it Daylight Savings Time year-round?

The short answer is YES. The bill was signed in May of 2021. However, since daylight savings time is federal law this means it is required for the United States to follow the time change schedule.

Sunshine Protection Act of 2021

The summary of H.R. 69 from Congress.gov notes that “this bill makes daylight savings time the new, permanent standard time. States with areas exempt from daylight savings time may choose the standard time for those areas.”

Now, for this to take action there are two important steps. The “legislation passes the House and receives the president’s signature,” said the Sleep Foundation.

Until the bill is passed be sure you check your manual time device on Sunday when you wake up to ensure you are on the right time sequence.
