Tuscaloosa's newest shopping plaza officially welcomed new customers with the grand opening of The Fresh Market.

The Shoppes at Legacy Park, which located on the same land as the old Cedar Crest neighborhood on the corner of McFarland Blvd and 15th Street, ushered in a new era on Wednesday morning, and it all began with the grocery store's traditional cracking of the Parmesan cheese.

The Fresh Market cracked the Parmesan, marking the grand opening of its Tuscaloosa store. This is the first business to open in Shoppes at Legacy Park, located at 15th Street and McFarland Blvd.

The store gave away samples of its gourmet coffee and reusable shopping bags to the first 1,000 customers and will be holding chef demonstrations, providing food samples, and giving out gift cards throughout the day.

The Fresh Market's new location will be open seven days a week from 8 AM - 9 PM and produces 30 freshly baked breads and 14 pie varieties each day, a full service meat counter with freshly ground beef, a wide selection of ready-to-serve entrees, fresh seafood delivered to the store several times per week and more than 200 imported and domestic cheeses.

The mayor was out at the grand opening and welcomed the company to town on Twitter.
