If there's one thing the Alabama football program is known for, it's national championships.
This weekend, fans can see a tangible result of those victories at the Paul W. Bryant Museum before the Crimson Tide takes on the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday.
According to a Monday morning press release, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Championship trophy will be on display outside the entrance of the Bryant Museum on Saturday, Oct. 17, from noon until 5 p.m.
“The Bryant Museum is honored to host the AFCA National Championship trophy before the Georgia game,” Ken Gaddy, director of the Paul W. Bryant Museum, said in the press release. “This is a great opportunity for our fans to get a close look at this beautiful trophy that the Crimson Tide is playing to win.”
The eight-pound Waterford Crystal football sits atop a sturdy base and is worth $30,000. The top school in the Amway Coaches' Poll – otherwise known as the national champion – wins the trophy each year.
Social distancing measures will be in place for those who want to have their photo taken with the trophy. To help keep everyone healthy, masks, gloves and hand sanitizer will be provided for each participant, who will maintain at least six feet of distance while standing in line.
The trophy has been awarded to the University of Alabama six times since its inception in 1986, and according to the release, is the most-awarded school in the trophy's 34 years of circulation.
Patrons can enjoy the memorabilia and history of the Bryant Museum before the Georgia game, which kicks off at 7 p.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Make plans to browse the museum, see the trophy and get to the game on time through the University of Alabama's mobile ticketing system. Click here to reserve a spot in line.
