People all over the country come out to host block parties, cookouts, and other events that involve the community the youth, and more on the first Tuesday in October.

Traditionally, National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday in August, but according to NATW, Texas and select areas celebrate on the first Tuesday in October.

According to Stillman College Chief of Police Carla Longmire, this National Night Out made history by being held at Stillman College.

There was also a special announcement made by Stillman's Chief of Police.

"We've decided to add a different component into our national night out, said Longmire.

"We decided to give a couple of local kids here in the Tuscaloosa area scholarships."

Longmire says that the scholarships will go to as many as 3 students in the Tuscaloosa area.

National Night Out featured performances from Northridge High School's drumline, the Stillman College Marching Band, Stillman's cheerleaders, Central High School's Cheerleaders, and more.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department was on hand as the community enjoyed live music, food trucks, and a great atmosphere.
