Schools in the area have decided to not take any chances and call off classes due to the threat for significant snow and travel hazards. Here's the list of schools closed on Wednesday.

American Christian Academy - closed
Bevill State Comm. College all locations - closed
Bibb County Schools - closed
Fayette County Schools - closed
Hale County Schools - closed
Shelton State Comm. College - closed
Tuscaloosa Academy - closed
Tuscaloosa Christian School - closed
Tuscaloosa City Schools - closed
Tuscaloosa County Schools - closed
UAB - all classes, campus operations cancelled
University of Alabama - all classes, normal operations cancelled.

The National Weather Service Birmingham has issued a Winter Storm Warning effective 9am Wednesday through Midnight for Bibb, Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Pickens and Tuscaloosa counties in West Alabama, with 2 to 5 inches of snow accumulation possible. The other counties in the area, Hale, Greene and Sumter have been issued a Winter Weather Advisory with up to 2 inches of snow possible. This weather event could begin as early as 9am on Wednesday and last through night.
