A patient was admitted to UAB hospital last night after exhibiting Ebola symptoms, and eight others were quarantined following the possible Ebola exposure. The patient, however, did not have Ebola.

al.com reports that the patient is considered to be low risk; however, officials are taking all necessary precautions. The patient recently traveled to a country where there are still active cases of the virus; doctors are testing the patient for Ebola to obtain an official diagnosis.

The eight others were quarantined after their exposure to the patient. Two rescue workers were kept at UAB overnight for observation; four other rescue workers were taken to a Birmingham firehouse to be quarantined. Two members of the patient's family were asked to remain in their home until an official diagnosis can be made.

UPDATE: The patient tested negative for Ebola. Doctors diagnosed the patient with malaria.
