Pit Bull Mauls 9-year-old

Police say a 9-year-old boy has been hospitalized after a pit bull jumped a fence and attacked him. A Birmingham police spokesman says the victim and another child were playing in their back yard Saturday afternoon when the dog jumped over a 6-foot fence and attacked the boy. Neighbors attempted to intervene, with one saying he beat the dog over the head with a bat numerous times and another shot the dog.

The child was taken to Children's of Alabama and is expected to recover. The dog's owner has not been found, according to Fox 6.
