A recent dry spell in Tuscaloosa County has left local farmers so empty-handed, the Northport Farmers Market has decided it will stay closed this Wednesday.

Usually, the farmers market opens for six hours every Wednesday and Saturday morning. For the second week in a row, though, managers of the open-air market are opting to stay closed on Wednesday.

In a Facebook post, ownership blamed the interruption in operation on weeks without rain throughout most of the area.

Much of the area has been without any significant rainfall since early September, which has apparently left local farmers without crops to harvest.

The farmers market did open over the weekend, though, and will aim to do the same this Saturday. Until then, farmers in West Alabama will keep hoping for rain to come again.
