The  NCAA has cancelled the remaining winter and spring championships on the schedule. NCAA President Mark Emmert along with the NCAA released a statement via Twitter announcing the cancellation of the men's and women's basketball tournament.

It remains to be seen if the NCAA will grant an additional year of eligibility to those seniors who have seen their final collegiate seasons cut short.

Alabama's men's basketball team was on the outside looking in to a tournament selection but the women's basketball played themselves squarely into the mix for a tournament selection. It would have been the first appearance since 1999 for the Alabama women.

Alabama's highly ranked gymnastics team will be prevented for competing for a national championship due to this decision.

Additionally the College World Series and Women's College World series are included in this decision. The Alabama baseball team had worked its way into the top-25 this season accumulating a 15-1 record. The Alabama Softball team started off inconsistently but still found themselves highly ranked despite a 14-8 start to their year.

This decision from the NCAA comes amid fears of spreading the COVID-19 coronavirus.
