A man accused of shooting a bouncer outside a Tuscaloosa bar Monday night has been charged with attempted murder and the victim is expected to recover, the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said Tuesday morning.

Jack Kennedy, the assistant commander of the VCU, said police believe 28-year-old Anatwan Somerville was trying to get into the High Tide 2.0 bar on Red Drew Avenue near the Tuscaloosa Strip Monday night when a bouncer denied him entry over violations of the bar's dress code and issues with Somerville's ID.

Kennedy said Somerville and the bouncer argued briefly before he tried to pull out a pistol. The bouncer tried to wrestle the weapon away from Somerville and several shots were fired, Kennedy said. At least one bullet struck the victim in the arm.

The University of Alabama Police Department and Tuscaloosa Police Department were both on the scene almost immediately, and were able to implicate and arrest SOmerville after interviewing witnesses and examining surveillance footage.

The victim was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment of wounds that Kennedy said were not life-threatening.

Somerville was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail and charged with attempted murder. He remained there Tuesday morning on a $60,000 bond.
