Wednesday - Holiday Travel

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days in the United States. To be prepared, I always encourage you to check weather and road conditions before hitting the road, airport, or train station.

The AAA is predicting that “Thanksgiving travel to rebound almost to pre-pandemic levels.” This translates to 53.4 million people to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, up 13% from 2020,” according to AAA predictions.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist mentioned that Wednesday, “Thanksgiving Eve will be a very tranquil day across the contiguous U.S. No severe storms, flooding, or major winter storms. Weather won’t be an issue for travelers.”

2021 Thanksgiving Weather Outlook

James Spann said in his Tuesday Weather Xtreme Video that “a very tranquil weather pattern continues across Alabama through the Thanksgiving weekend. Maybe a few showers Thursday night otherwise we’ll be dry.”

Weather Breakdown

Spann noted that “Thursday will be dry for most of the state, but clouds will increase ahead of a cold front. Showers could creep into the far northern part of the state by mid to late afternoon, and a few showers are likely over the northern 2/3 of the state Thursday night. Moisture will be very limited, and rain amounts could be 1/4 inch or less for most communities. The high Thursday will be in the low to mid-60s.”
