Black History Maker of Alabama - Sheriah Gibson

Black History Makers of Alabama honors Sheriah Gibson for her dedication to entrepreneurship and community engagement in Tuscaloosa.

Gibson the owner and certified wedding and event planner/designer of her business, the award-winning Posh Occasions by Sheriah. Gibson believes that the perfect event is "an exquisite collaboration and a seamless journey of preparation."

Gibson is a two-time graduate of the University of Alabama, where she received her bachelor's degree in restaurant, hotel and meetings management in 2016 and her master's in hospitality management in 2021.

Gibson enjoys researching fresh ideas, social trends, and giving back to the community, which she accomplishes through her involvement as a member the Junior League of Tuscaloosa, board member for the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa, mentor for the Junior Cosmos Study Club and other civic organizations.

She was the the recipient of the 2021 Jack Davis Professional Achievement Award for her outstanding professional accomplishments as a College of Human Environmental Studies alumni at UA and works to inspire the next generation of hospitality industry trailblazers through working as an adjunct instructor for the university.

Gibson has been named as one of the honorees for the 2023 United Way of West Alabama Young Leaders Society award, which she will receive later this month.

When not coordinating and designing special events, she can be found spending quality time with her husband, Wesley Gibson, and their golden doodle affectionately known as “Gibby."

Gibson said she honors black history by reflecting on "Never be limited by other people's limited imaginations," by Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African-American female astronaut.

It is important that as an entrepreneur that you know the history and journey and utilize it as a roadmap and guidance for the process ahead, but also be free to prepare for the unique success you will have as well.
