A Paul W. Bryant High School student and a student from a neighboring county attended prom together before a predawn crash that left the pair dead and injured two others.

Social media posts identified the victims as 17-year-old Madison Sims and 18-year-old Samuel Brown. Sims was a student at Bryant while Brown attended Robert C. Hatch High School in Perry County.

The Perry County School District released a statement on Facebook confirming the news. The post said grief counselors will be on campus next week to provide support to students and staff.

As previously reported, the incident occurred just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of Interstate 20/59 and Skyland Boulevard where four occupants were found in a 2022 Tesla that was pinned underneath a semi-truck trailer.

Sims and Brown were pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old Montgomery girl and 17-year-old Marion girl were hospitalized for their injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation with the Tuscaloosa Police Department's traffic homicide unit.
