Alabama State Troopers are celebrating the peaceful resolution of a scary situation after they safely recovered three missing Virginia children from a vehicle on I-459 in Jefferson County.

Lieutenant Jeremy J. Burkett, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said three children were reported missing by the Virginia State Police on Thursday - three siblings aged 6, 8 and 10.

Burkett said the kids were missing from a bus stop at an apartment complex in Fishersville, Virginia and "believed to be in extreme danger."

Ultimately, state investigators determined the children were likely in a private vehicle with their 35-year-old biological mother. Shanice Chante Davison, who was taking them south to Evergreen, Alabama.

At 4:45 Thursday afternoon, Troopers located the target vehicle on I-459 in Jefferson County

State police were able to pull the vehicle over without incident and recover the children. Their mother, Davison, was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from justice before being booked in the Jefferson County Jail. Burkett said there were two other adults in the vehicle as well.

The children, identified as Jai’Marcus Elijah Lewis, 10, Ja’Miya Tiana Lewis, 8, and Ja’Liyah Monae Lewis, 6, were found safe.

"In a world where time is of the essence, the swift action of law enforcement and the vital intelligence from the Alabama Fusion Center, along with our fellow counterparts across state lines, remind us that every second counts in the mission to safeguard our children," ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said. "I commend all of our personnel, as well as all of our fellow counterparts in Virgina and Tennessee, and federal partners that worked tirelessly to ensure these three children were found safe.”

No other information was available Thursday as the investigation continues.
