AARP has sent out a warning about a new scamming method that specifically targets Veterans.

The warning comes as a result of a poll conducted by AARP which reportedly revealed U.S Veterans and active-duty service members are at risk of fraud specifically dealing with a new form of assistance.

The survey involved 887 veterans and active-duty military personnel ages 18-plus, according to AARP, and found two-thirds of America's vets are unaware they can receive assistance for free through the Sergeant First Class (SFC) Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act.

VA.Gov listed the changes that the PACT Act will bring in the United States:

  • Expands and extends eligibility for VA health care for Veterans with toxic exposures and Veterans of the Vietnam, Gulf War, and post-9/11 eras
  • Adds 20+ more presumptive conditions for burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic exposures
  • Adds more presumptive-exposure locations for Agent Orange and radiation
  • Requires VA to provide a toxic exposure screening to every Veteran enrolled in VA health care
  • Helps us improve research, staff education, and treatment related to toxic exposures

The deadline to apply for these benefits is August 10th.

According to AARP, the poll revealed that criminals are taking advantage of veterans' lack of awareness by offering fraudulent benefits claims assistance with promises of lucrative benefits.
