Tuscaloosa Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Announces 2026 Talent Hunt Competition
The Alpha Tau Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is inviting talented high school students from Greene, Hale, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa counties to showcase their abilities through its annual Talent Hunt Program.
Set for Sunday, September 27, the 2026 Talent Hunt Competition will begin at 6 p.m. at Cornerstone Full Gospel Baptist Church, located at 610 Brooksdale Drive, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
Through this long-standing initiative, students can demonstrate their talents in the fine arts while receiving encouragement and support. The program features a public, juried competition designed to recognize and nurture emerging young artists.
“The Talent Hunt Program has been in existence since 1953. It is a program mandated by the fraternity’s international headquarters and was born out of a need to provide opportunities for young men and women to give full expression to their talents in a public juried forum,” said Rodney T. Pelt, Sr., Chairman of the Talent Hunt Committee. “We look forward to significant participation from students throughout West Alabama.”
Student participants may compete in one of the four artistic categories: Music, Interpretive Movement to Music, Speech, and Visual Art. They will also have the opportunity to earn prizes: first place receives $250, second place receives $150, and third place receives $100.
“The first-place winner must be prepared to advance to the state-level competition. Expenses associated with state-level participation will be covered by the Alpha Tau Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and its foundation,” said the press release.

Students may participate in one of the following artistic categories:
- Music
Vocal or instrumental performances in classical, semi-classical, gospel, or jazz. A printed copy of the musical score must be provided for the judges. - Interpretive Movement to Music
Ballet, modern dance, tap, and other appropriate forms of dance. - Speech
Poetry, oration, monologue, dramatic presentation, and similar forms of spoken expression. - Visual Art
Sculpture, photography, drawing, painting, and other visual art forms.
Who Can Participate?
- Contestants must be currently enrolled high school students.
- All presentations, including instrumental performances, must be memorized and presented in a dignified and appropriate manner.
- Track music may be used as accompaniment, provided the track does not contain lead instrumental or background vocal parts.

1st Place – $250
2nd Place – $150
3rd Place – $100
