‘Red Wears Pink’ Walk Brings Community Together for Breast Cancer Awareness

The Tuscaloosa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host its Annual Red Wear Pink Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday, October 17, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Tuscaloosa Career & Technology Academy Track, 2800 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The chapter invites community members, families, organizations, and supporters to come together to raise awareness about breast cancer and show support for those impacted by the disease.

“The Breast Cancer Awareness Walk is more than just a walk. It is a powerful demonstration of hope, strength, support, and solidarity,” said Kimberly Morissette, Physical and Mental Health Chair.

The annual walk united the Tuscaloosa community in an effort to increase breast cancer awareness, promote education, and recognize the strength of individuals and families affected by the disease. Participants will come together to show support for breast cancer survivors, those currently undergoing treatment, caregivers, and loved ones, while honoring the memory of those who have lost their lives to breast cancer.

Through its Red Wears Pink initiative, the Tuscaloosa Alumnae Chapter continues to promote health and wellness while creating opportunities for meaningful community engagement. “The event emphasizes the importance of breast health awareness, early detection, and supporting one another throughout the breast cancer journey. Community members, families, organizations, and supporters are encouraged to attend and wear pink as the Tuscaloosa community comes together for a morning centered on awareness, encouragement, support, and empowerment,” said the press release.

“Breast Cancer Awareness is important because awareness can lead to action,” said Morissette. “By encouraging education, routine screenings, early detection, and conversations about breast health, we can empower women and families to be proactive about their health.”
