The Townsquare Media Coverage Area and other areas of Alabama could face the possibility of strong to severe storms.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said, "A complex pattern will keep the weather wet and stormy at times across Alabama through tomorrow with occasional rain and a few strong thunderstorms.”

The concern is if storms “end up overlapping with an area of unstable air building northward, then some of the storms will have the potential to become severe. Showers and storms will continue Monday morning with a severe risk as well, assuming earlier waves of activity haven't depleted the presence of unstable air,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Risk Areas

The Storm Prediction Center has defined a "slight risk" for nearly all of the Townsquare Media Coverage area for this afternoon into Monday lasting until the early afternoon.

Timing Outlook

Currently, the window for activity for “Round 1” is from 3 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. Then “Round 2” is from Monday 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Potential Threats

The concerns of the system for the entire time window are tornadoes, damaging winds up to 60 mph, quarter-size hail, and flooding.

The flooding concern is “localized flooding of poor-drainage areas and small waterways,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Spann said, “This is a complex and somewhat conditional severe weather threat for Alabama. The position of a surface front, the location of small-scale boundaries, and the degree of instability are all important.”

Highest Tornado Probability

“The highest tornado probabilities later today and tonight are over the far west and southwest counties of Alabama, and tomorrow over the east and southeast part of the state. The chance of a tornado north of I-20 (the northern third of Alabama) through tomorrow is very low, but not zero,” said Spann.
