Historical Black Churches In Tuscaloosa
Hunter Chapel AME Zion Church; organized in 1865 was originally a school for children of freed slaves during Reconstruction. It is the oldest AME Zion Church in Tuscaloosa.
First African Baptist Church; founded in 1866, this church located on Stillman Blvd. was the meeting place for many civil rights activities in the 1960's.
Brown Memorial Presbyterian Church; Organized in1880 and is located on Stillman Boulevard, this is the oldest existing black Presbyterian church in Alabama.
Beautiful Zion A.M.E. Church organized in 1870 by freed blacks and was built in 1896 at its present location on The Sanders Ferry Road.
