PARA has teamed up with Shelton State Community College to offer West Alabama youth something special during the summer.

The event is called Friday Night Live. It's a youth program for ages 6-17 in West Alabama. Friday Night Live will feature free food, games, music, and giveaways Friday, July 8th from 6p-9p at the McDonald Hughes Center.

"The most important thing is we want the youth to come and have a good time. This is also an opportunity for both Shelton State and PARA to build healthy and lasting relationships with our community partners," said Joseph Eatmon. Shelton State's Dean of Community Relations.

Now more than ever, the youth in West Alabama can use events like this to keep them occupied.

When asked about the motivation for creating an event like this, Eatmon said, "We wanted to give the kids a safe space as the summer comes to an end. In hope to continue this type of event past the summer months."

Eatmon believes having a safe space for the kids is important. "I think it’s so important, especially with all our youth are experiencing that they have a safe space they can just come to relax and have a good time."

Friday Night Live will rotate between local facilities including the Mcdonald Hughes Center, Bowers and the McAbee Center. Palmore Park is also on the list of host locations for the month of August.
