Misti Bellar, Director of the Fayette Animal Shelter will resign effective today after the commission voted 4-1 to accept her resignation this morning.

Bellar's resignation came following a claim from the shelter on Tuesday stating that it would have to euthanize twenty-two dogs if not adopted by Christmas Eve.

Since that time, other area shelter have stepped in to take the dogs and Fayette County Commissioner Barry Corkerin has said that no one ever ordered the dogs to be put down.

The shelter will remain closed until a new director is appointed.
