The Alabama Crimson Tide softball team played its first two games of the fall season Sunday in Nashville. TN. Though they fell in the first game to the Lipscomb Bisons 3-2, they came back with a strong win in the second game. beating the Bisons 7-0.

The Alabama offense put on a show in their second game victory, scoring seven runs, four of which came on a grand slam by sophomore utility player KJ Haney. Haney was responsible for five of the seven runs scored, singling in sophomore outfielder M'Kay Gidley in the fifth and hitting the grand slam in the sixth.

A combination of efforts from redshirt freshman pitcher Alex Salter and the reigning SEC tournament MVP and NFCA 2021 pitcher of the year, senior Montana Fouts gave the Crimson Tide a shutout they needed to put themselves in the win column. Salter pitched to the minimum amount of batters through the first four innings and Fouts retired all six batters she faced in two innings of relief.

The first game may have resulted in a loss, but sophomore pitcher Jaala Torrence and junior pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl combined for a total of six strikeouts against the Bisons. Sophomore outfielder Kat Grill drove in the first of the Tide's two runs with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning, scoring senior catcher Ally Shipman. In the top of the sixth, freshman outfielder Dallis Goodnight hit a leadoff double that bounced off the wall and she later scored on a sacrifice fly from junior catcher Abby Doer.

Alabama almost came back to win it in the seventh after a one-out single from freshman infielder Megan Bloodworth put the tying run on base, however a double-play ended the Tide's chances at a comeback.

The Crimson Tide plays their first home games this coming Saturday, Oct. 16th, at 1 P.M. against ULM and 3 P.M. against Mobile in Rhoads Stadium.
