Alabama Softball Clinches Series Over Tennessee
For the second weekend in a row, Alabamas managed to fight through a grueling SEC series to stay at 24-2 (5-1 in conference) after a Sunday afternoon pitching duel in Rhoads Stadium. In the series-clinching matchup, Alabama fed off of their three-run 4th inning to fend off the Tennessee Volunteers by a final score of 3-0.
After the victory, coach Patrick Murphy said, "Just a really good series win for us against a really good opponent. - Proud of everybody." When addressing the offensive performance, Murphy added, "Obviously, when you get only three hits, you're praying that all three are coming in one inning and they did."
Junior RHP Montana Fouts was credited for her ninth win in 2021, moving her record to 9-2 with one save. She pitched all 7.0 innings for the series victory following her disappointing outing from Friday and threw a total of 107 pitches with just one walk, six hits, and eight strikeouts in her dominant Sunday shutout.
While the Tide only managed to muster up three hits, it would prove to be plenty as Fouts had another one of her characteristically electric outings. No Alabama batter struck out more than once on Sunday and fellow pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl may have had her best day at the plate for the season as she accounted for a walk, hit, run, and an RBI in her two trips to the box.
Sophomore infielder Savannah Woodard continued to build on her batting success in 2021 and ended her day at 1-for-3 with one hit and a run. Seniors KB Sides and Maddie Morgan both failed to record a hit for the outing, however, they both were able to add to their RBI total as they each knocked in a run in sacrifice.
