Alabama picked up a prominent commitment for the 2022 recruiting class today. Ty Simpson, 5-star quarterback from Martin, Tennessee announced on CBSHQ today his intentions to play his college football in Tuscaloosa. Simpson follows the footsteps of Tua Tagovailoa and Bryce Young as top-tier quarterbacks to commit to Alabama.

Simpson is considered the No. 3 overall "pro-style" quarterback in the class and is ranked as the No. 2 player in the state of Tennessee. He chose to commit to Alabama over the likes of Clemson, Tennessee and Ole Miss.

The 6-foot-2 inch quarterback seemed to favor Tennessee early in the recruiting process and then Clemson before settling on Alabama to pursue his college career. He has most recently been recruited by two of Alabama's newest staff members, Bill O'Brien and Jay Graham.

Last season as a starter he threw for 1,888 yards with 20 touchdowns and only four interceptions for Westview High School. His team finished second in the Class 3A Region 7 district with a record of 7-5 last season. Simpson is the son of UT-Martin head football coach, Jason Simpson.

Simpson received his initial scholarship offer in June of 2019 after attending one of Nick Saban's summer camps. Simpson took an unofficial visit to the Capstone in September of 2019 as a sophomore but has been unable to take an official visit to Tuscaloosa due to COVID-19.

Simpson becomes the fourth member of the 2022 class and the first 5-star recruit of the 2022 recruiting cycle. He joins 4-star tight end Elijah Brown as the offensive members of the current class. Steve Wiltfong, director of recruiting for 247Sports has compared Simpson's style and skill-set to NFL Hall-of-Famer Brett Favre.
