Join In With The 32nd Annual African American Read-In!

I love the fact the so many organizations in the community are helping our kids when it comes to school and literacy. Shoutout to my fellow BGLO in Tuscaloosa for being part of the Annual African American Read-In.

As I was scrolling on Facebook, I came across an event that I didn't even know was happening. Thanks to the Tuscaloosa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I now know about the Annual African American Read-In.

The actual read-in will be held on Zoom on February 28th, 2021 from 3p-5p. They are also doing a book donation as well. For members of the community who would like to donate books, you can drop them off at Stillman College at the Wynn center on February 27th, 2021 from Noon-2.

This is something I could see myself doing. Having a nice cup of tea and reading one of the many books published by an African American author in my son's collection.

I think reading is so important for young black boys and girls. It really seems like it's not looked at as the "cool thing to do." Hopefully, events like this can change that stigma and help more people in our community pick up books.

I really love how they stress reading books by African American authors because representation is a major issue when it comes to children's books as well.
