It looks like we will have to wait a while to see Deontay Wilder fight Alexander Povetkin. Wilder was primed and ready to face Povetkin in January but Povetkin informed the WBC that he would not be ready to face wilder in January.

In the meantime Wilder will fight a third voluntary defense in January before facing Povetkin mist likely in April. Povetkin who boast a record of 30 wins and 1 loss with 22 knockouts scored a 12th round knockout over Mariusz Wach Wednesday night to retain his mandatory challenger status for the WBC heavyweight championship.

Jay Deas, Wilder’s manager and trainer said “We would have like it to be Povetkin, but we’re going to find the next highest ranked guy that’s available.”

Wilder’s next fight will be in New York at the Barclay’s Center on January 16, 2016.
