A frigid Tuscaloosa February morning didn't stop a large crowd of supporters from missing the 2016 West Alabama Heart Walk at the amphitheater! We recap the event with lots of photos and video!

The event opened by celebrating heart disease survivors, followed by recognizing the teams and individuals who raised money for the cause! The teams varied from local businesses to students, along with a lot of individuals who came out!

The pre-walk activities featured Big Al and the Alabama cheerleaders, along with a fitness team to lead the crowd with a warm-up before hitting the pavement on the walk. On cold day like this one, everyone was ready to jump around.

The 5K walking course along the Black Warrior River also featured the Brussel Sprout Challenge! That's right, the challenge to eat the vegetable disliked by many. But, they're really good for you, and the challenge was another way to promote healthy eating to go with the healthy lifestyle of regular exercise.

Did you know 1 out of 4 deaths is due to heart disease? It's the #1 killer of Alabamians.

Let me just say, it wasn't just cold, it was COLD out there. What made it worse was the brisk wind. "If that wind would just quite," is what you could hear people say. Everyone should feel really proud and everyone in West Alabama should be proud of the commitment to attend this event, regardless of the conditions. Thank you.

Let's get to the highlights! First, the video below features the warm-up exercises, followed by the start of the walk.
