West Alabama Birth Professionals Hosting A Free Virtual Event

Many women dream of the day where they can take part in the beautiful event of bringing life into this world. After their pregnancy is confirmed, the question becomes "What's next?" Two professional birth workers in West Alabama are answering those questions for moms in need. Birth Assistant & Doula  Jamilah, & Lactation Counselor and birth Doula Mariah will host a free virtual event entitled “I’m Pregnant what’s next?” The event will be hosted on Zoom Thursday, July 16th at 7:00p CST. During the event, Jamilah and Mariah will provide information on important steps for pregnant women that will lead to a healthy pregnancy and preparation for labor and delivery. When asked about this event and it's importance to the community, Jamilah had this to say:

"As we continue to fight to prove that black lives matter, we have to also be aware that black women are 3 to 4 times more likely to die during childbirth than any other race due to systemic racism. I believe the way to combat these statistics is to empower women of color. We do that by educating them on their options when it comes to their prenatal care and strengthening their self-esteem to be confident to speak up about their health and body if they feel something is going wrong."

I really hope West Alabama takes advantage of this free event. I've heard so many horror stories of women in labor or at prenatal appointments that are linked to bias, racism, and women not knowing how to advocate for themselves during the pregnancy process.
